Life After Ninety – Michael Baastrup Chang, 2016 Exhibition

Life After Ninety was a solo exhibition by Danish-Korean artist Michael Baastrup Chang at Galleri Weinberger, Copenhagen, March 4 – April 16, 2016. The show featured drawings and paintings exploring systems, rules, and repetition as structures for abstraction.

Works included graphite drawings on paper from sketches developed 2009–2015, oil-wax treated paper pieces combining graphite, beeswax, linseed oil, and pigment, and tempera paintings on canvas layered with pipe clay, chalk, slaked lime, and pigment. The series emphasized process, materiality, and the movement of the hand.

Michael Baastrup Chang (b. 1973) studied at Central Saint Martins in London and is based in Copenhagen. His practice spans drawing, painting, and printmaking, with later solo exhibitions at Galleri Weinberger Schandorff including Colours Collected from a Childhood (2020) and Graphite (2022).
